The FUNDACIÓN GARRAHAN was established on 25 March 1997 to pay special attention to the social and emotional needs of patients and their families. They also provide a home for children, together with their mothers, who come from different provinces and even other countries to receive long term medical treatment in the Garrahan Children´s Hospital in Buenos Aires. In this hospital the children feel at home, receive love and support during their long treatment from volunteers and doctors.
Patients are also treated at Elizalde, Garrahan or Gutiérrez pediatric hospitals, where they perform outpatient medical treatments or are awaiting diagnoses of complex diseases that do not require hospitalisation. This “home away from home” which is supported by the dedicated work of a team of professionals, assistants and volunteers, provides accommodation for around 1 000 children per year.
This year’s TCM charity auction took place at the historic Alvear Palace Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina a fitting venue for our famous charity event. Our charity auction is now a vital part of our annual world congress and as always, these meetings are very productive, allowing our members from different parts of the world to get together to discuss business and move forward with very important topics that concern the Group.
Whilst our congress revolves around the TCM Group business, we dedicated one evening solely to our commitment to social responsibility through the auction, which was introduced by our chairman Hubert Czapinski (TCM Poland).
Our auction was well supported by all delegates who donated items brought from their home countries. These become memorabilia items for the delegates, a constant reminder when they return home of the great time spent in Buenos Aires.
Thanks to our auctioneer Pierre Haincourt (TCM UK) we raised US$16 000 from our members as they out-bid each other to take home their prized items. TCM Group pledging a further US$2,000, taking our overall donation to the FUNDACIÓN GARRAHAN to US$18 000.
All contributions collected, as a rule of TCM, will go towards purchasing essential equipment for the hospital that will be used for the children.
