TCM Group passionately shares Dubai Cares’—and Nelson Mandela’s—belief that education is one of the most powerful agents of change the world has ever known or will ever know.
Foremost on Dubai Cares’ agenda is the eradication of poverty in the lives of the world’s illiterate and innumerate children by playing its part in providing as many children as possible with access to primary education.
Once bestowed, it believes, an education can never be taken away from the recipient, who is then equipped to make an enduring positive contribution to his or her community and the world at large.
Delegates at the TCM Group’s fourth Annual Charity Auction raised a formidable sum of US$11,100 as they bid on items hand-picked from their home countries. With TCM Group pledging a further US$2,500, the overall donation sum came to US$13,600.
This year’s recipient—Dubai Cares—will invest the funds in educating 70 children for a period of one year.
Set up in 2007 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Cares is a philanthropic organization whose mission is to increase access to primary education for the world’s 124 million adolescents who are not receiving a school education and for the 250 million illiterate and innumerate children of school-going age.
Presently, Dubai Cares’ initiatives are having a significant impact on the lives of over 14 million children in 41 countries.
Dubai Cares’ realizes its mandate through a series of coordinated programmes that seek to remove the manifold roadblocks to education and learning that are so widespread in developing countries. These programmes include such activities as providing schools with supplies of food and fresh water; ensuring schools’ sanitation and hygiene levels meet international standards; increasing literacy and numeracy through continuous teaching training, early childhood education, and curriculum development; and improving school infrastructure.
